Recent 2021 Interview
In Jane Brucker’s Voyage LA interview, she notes that as the pandemic continued, she allowed time to reflect on living in LA, her past work and her future endeavors with galerie PLUTO in Bonn, Germany. Brucker co-founded PLUTO with her husband, scientist and medical historian Jeremy Wasser, PhD. Read more and learn about her upcoming exhibitions, projects and new work.
Interview Excerpt:
"I think my public projects, teaching and efforts at galerie PLUTO are becoming more broad-reaching and global. Conversely, I see my own artwork becoming even more intimate and reflective. I look forward to spending more time quietly in my studio."

Baik Art Spotlight
Jane Brucker
Interview by Maxine Saki
Jane Brucker was also a featured spotlight artist in Baik Art’s recent newsletter. In the interview, Brucker addressed her recent work, including answering questions about her installation, Fragile Thoughts, currently on exhibit in Judson Studios: Stained Glass from Gothic to Street Style at Forest Lawn Museum in LA County. Fragile Thoughts is a portrait of public health pioneer, Elizabeth Milbank Anderson. Brucker explored Anderson and her legacy prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and, as a result, has some new thoughts about how the piece contributes to a growing public consciousness about the nature of health and civic responsibility in the COVID-19 era.

Jane Brucker’s sculpture, Piano Bench, for Condoleezza Rice, has concluded its run as part of the survey exhibition, A Seat at the Table, at the EMK, Boston, Massachusetts. The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate is dedicated to “educating the public about the important role of the Senate in our government, encouraging participatory democracy, invigorating civil discourse, and inspiring the next generation of citizens and leaders to engage in the civic life of their communities.”
Brucker was pleased to be included in an exhibition that highlighted the historic and contemporary trailblazers who have contributed to the Senate by influencing policy and government through process and representation. A special thank you to Judson Studios for their help in creating the painted glass portrait of Dr. Rice.
Memorial Stories

Jane Brucker is now compiling the stories associated with the articles of clothing that were donated to her ongoing work, Memorial Project (2001-present). These accounts are collected into a digital archive entitled Memorial Stories. Currently, Memorial Project includes more than 300 panels created from the shirts, dresses, pants, and clothing donated from families and friends of loved ones who have passed. During the 20 years that Brucker has been working on the project, stories frequently accompanied the donated clothing.
“When someone would give me or send me a shirt, dress, or scarf worn by a recently passed loved one, they would tell me the story of either that particular garment and/or of the person that they remembered,” Brucker said. "The memories and individual attributes that were shared felt poignant and compelling. Often when people sent me the clothing items, they included explanatory notes pinned to the fabric. These narratives told in the words of the sender have always seemed as if they should be part of the larger piece."
